Greenwood Construction Project General Information updated 5/13/26

A project to reconstruct Greenwood Blvd from Sussex to Canterbury started in March.  They will be doing two blocks at a time, first the north side lane on Greenwood, and when that is finished, they will do the south side lane.  The entire project is expected to go through the fall (depending on weather delays).

They are currently  working on the north side of Greenwood from St Elmo all the way to Canterbury.

An opportunity for yoga off the mat

This situation reminds me of when they closed highway 64/40 for two years and I think most of us were initially a bit freaked out, then after the first couple weeks we all learned our way around.  "The only constant in the universe is change" -- even though most of us are uncomfortable with change.  May we all take some deep breaths, allow a little extra time and go with the flow.

Sutton and Greenwood, Canterbury and Greenwood

You can access Greenwood from Sutton, although you can only turn left to head east on Greenwood currently.

You can get to Greenwood using the Railroad St exit ramp from southbound Big Bend.

Canterbury is currently closed if you are heading south from Manchester and Marshal Road.  You cannot go under the railroad track bridge to keep going south.  Either come from further west such as Sutton, or follow the detour signs which will take you to Sutton.

Access from Big Bend heading East

There is only one way traffic heading east on Greenwood from the Big Bend end all the way to Canterbury.

If traveling North on Big Bend either take the ramp that drops you off on Greenwood heading east (towards the studio), or turn right on Oxford then left on Sussex and right on Greenwood.

If traveling South on Big Bend you can take the Railroad St exit ramp which drops you off at Sutton and Greenwood OR go to the light at Oxford and turn left, then left on Sussex and right on Greenwood.

To get back to Big Bend from the studio head east first, turn right on St Elmo or Picadilly, then right on Oxford and take that to the light at Big Bend.

Coming from Canterbury on the East end

There is no west bound traffic on Greenwood from Canterbury.  Currently Canterbury is closed to southbound driver's at the railroad track bridge.  Follow the detour signs which will take you to Sutton.

If you are heading north on Canterbury from McCausland, go left on Tennyson Square (before you get to Greenwood), then right on Commonwealth and right on Cambridge.  Take Cambridge as far west as you want to go and cut back to Greenwood on one of the cross streets.

Once you are Cambridge take that to Kensington or Sussex and turn right to get back to Greenwood.

There tends to be parking on that end of Greenwood west of the studio (before Shurway auto).  You can also find parking on side streets St Elmo and Kensington.

Parking ideas

South side of Greenwood from Sussex all the way to Canterbury is open for parking, however there is not much available parking on Greenwood most of the time right now.

If you get to Greenwood from the Sussex end west of the studio there tends to be some parking down on that end, available on both sides of the street.

Other options are some of the cross streets -- Sussex has parking on the east side of the street -- Kensington on the west side -- St Elmo on the east side and also Picadilly.

East side of Sutton north of the railroad tracks. You will need to walk across the tracks and Greenwood to get to the studio.

North side of Pacific Ave north of the railroad tracks. You will need to walk across the tracks and Greenwood to get to the studio.

Gravel area north of railroad tracks to the west of Sutton.
