Greenwood Construction Project General Information updated 8/24/26

A project to reconstruct Greenwood Blvd from Sussex to Canterbury started in March.  They have finished the entire north side lane and have begun work on the south side lane.  The project is expected to go through the fall (depending on weather and other delays).

Construction of the south side lane of Greenwood between Kensington and St Elmo has begun.  There is no parking on the studio side of the street that entire block.  There is no east bound traffic from Kensington to Greenwood.

There is parking on the north side of the street the entire length of Greenwood, as well as side streets, Sutton, etc.

If coming from the east end of Greenwood, nothing really changes.  If coming from the west end you will need go around and access Greenwood from St Elmo.

They have also just started two bridge replacement projects of the bridges over Big Bend that provide access to and from Greenwood.  As of July 20th all the ramps connecting Big Bend directly to Greenwood are closed.  Lane closures on Big Bend are expected as well.

You will need to find alternative ways to get to Greenwood using Manchester, Flora, and James to get to Sutton.  Another option is using Oxford from the traffic light on Big Bend and getting to Greenwood via one of the side streets off of Oxford.

PARKING LOT LOTTO

If you win the parking lot lotto, park in one of the asphalt spots and grab a sign hanging on the studio door to put on the windshield.

Parking ideas

North side of Greenwood.

Other options are some of the cross streets -- Sussex has parking on the east side of the street -- Kensington on the west side -- St Elmo on the east side and also Picadilly.

East side of Sutton north of the railroad tracks. You will need to walk across the tracks and Greenwood to get to the studio.

North side of Pacific Ave north of the railroad tracks. You will need to walk across the tracks and Greenwood to get to the studio.

Gravel area north of railroad tracks to the west of Sutton.

Coming from Canterbury on the East end

Greenwood is now open to west bound traffic from Canterbury, which is great for anyone coming from the east to the studio.

An opportunity for yoga off the mat

This situation reminds me of when they closed highway 64/40 for two years and I think most of us were initially a bit freaked out, then after the first couple weeks we all learned our way around.  "The only constant in the universe is change" -- even though most of us are uncomfortable with change.  May we all take some deep breaths, allow a little extra time and go with the flow.
